Technician–Non Destructive Testing Track/Trainee
Location: Toronto, Canada
Reporting to the Senior Technician – NDT, you will be responsible for the non-destructive testing of rail, rail joints and track associated components and equipment for flaws, dangerous conditions, etc., and for testing of non-ferrous components used by the Track & Structure Department. Duties include: executing in a safe and efficient manner subway, SRT and surface rail testing program in accordance with Track & Structure approved standards; setting up, calibrating, adjusting and operating a variety of Ultrasonic, Magnetic Particle and Liquid Penetrant test equipment; interpreting readings in accordance with applicable acceptance standards and classifying and prioritizing defects for removal in recognition of safety implications; maintaining an accurate record keeping system for information such as sketches, photographs, documents, etc; operating and maintaining equipment used in the work, including keeping necessary calibration documentation; completing a variety of forms and test records, and maintaining an accurate information system; assisting in the preparation of specifications for non-destructive equipment and systems; performing special non-destructive testing projects. You will also substitute for the Senior Technician - NDT during periods of absence. Responsible for treating passengers and employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers and employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (if applicable and within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer. Annual Salary Range: $57,202.60 - $81,026.40 (Level 7SA – 8SA) (Actual salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications)
Skills/Knowledge/Experience
You require knowledge of Civil (Railways) or Mechanical (Strength of Materials) Engineering principles, methods, procedures and practices. You must have sound knowledge of Mathematics (specifically Trigonometry and Algebra), basic research procedures and field survey techniques; familiarity with the use and care of non-destructive testing equipment and electronics. You must possess good analytical and problem solving skills; effective oral communication and writing skills; familiarity with PC databases and spreadsheets. Must have and maintain the Canadian General Standards Board (C.G.S.B.) Certification of Level II Ultrasonics (UT), Level II Magnetic Particle (MP), Level II Liquid Penetrant (LP) and the Canadian Welding Bureau (C.W.B.) Level I - Visual. These skills and knowledge would normally be acquired by obtaining a Community College Diploma in the field of Civil or Mechanical Engineering Technology or its the equivalent, plus related experience, preferably in an area where the operations, techniques and procedures for non-destructive testing are learned. A valid Province of Ontario Class G driver’s licence is required. Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees
A selected candidate, who is deemed not fully qualified with the above credentials, must possess a minimum C.G.S.B. Certification of Level I Ultrasonics (UT) and must be able to obtain and maintain Certification of Level II Ultrasonics (UT), Level II Magnetic Particle (MT), Level II Liquid Penetrant (PT) and the C.W.B. Visual Level I. All the aforementioned must be successfully obtained within a twenty-four (24) month period, for continued employment eligibility.
